A video file in PowerPoint does not play well or becomes choppy due to many reasons, like:

  2. Export the video in WMV format.
  3. Optimize media compatibility.

Let’s see all these solutions in detail.

1] Update your Graphics Card driver

If the problem is occurring on every media player you have installed on your system, your Graphics Card driver may be corrupted or outdated. To fix this problem, we suggest you update your Graphics Card driver.

You can follow any one of the following methods to update your Graphics Card driver:

  1. You can install Graphics Card driver updates via Optional Updates in Windows 11/10.
  2. You can download the latest version of your Graphics Card driver from the manufacturer’s website and install it manually on your system.
  3. Update your Graphics Card driver from the Device Manager. The steps for the same are explained below:

If you are installing the driver manually by downloading it from the manufacturer’s website, first, you have to uninstall its current version from your computer. For this, open the Device Manager and right-click on your Graphics Card driver, and select Uninstall device. Follow the on-screen instructions. After uninstalling the driver, run the installer file to install the driver manually.

2] Export your video in WMV format

If you are experiencing a stuttering issue on exporting the PowerPoint presentation to MP4 format, you can try exporting it in WMV format. Check if it fixes the issue.

3] Optimize Media Compatibility

The Optimize Media Compatibility option appears in PowerPoint if the format of the media inserted in your presentation might have compatibility issues with other devices. If you do not see this option in PowerPoint, it means that the media format you have inserted in the PowerPoint presentation does not have any compatibility issues.

  1. Launch Microsoft PowerPoint and go to “File > Info.”
  2. Check if the Optimize Media Compatibility option is there. If yes, click on the Optimize Compatibility button to begin the test.

Wait till the process gets completed. After the completion of the optimization process, check if the issue persists.

How do I insert a video in PowerPoint without lagging?

  1. Compress your media files. If the media file is too large, it may cause lagging issues, so reducing the video file size may help you fix the problem.
  2. Disable Hardware Acceleration.

  2. Click on the Compress Media button and select the lower quality to compress your video.

After compressing the video, the issue should be fixed. If this does not fix the problem, you have to disable Hardware Acceleration.
